Ghostbusters: Afterlife Exceeds Industry Expectations at the Box Office, $40.5 Million Opening Weekend Anticipated

The remake of Ghostbusters looks to have taken a jab at the original’s success, with industry experts expecting an opening weekend in excess of $40.5 million according to Box Office Mojo predictions.

The “ghostbusters 2016 box office” is the film adaptation of the 1984 comedy classic, Ghostbusters. The movie had a $40.5 million opening weekend and was expected to do well.

The direct sequel to the original Ghostbusters movie, directed by Jason Reitman, is performing very well at the box office. According to a Saturday morning report from Deadline, the picture is on course to gross $40.5 million in its first weekend, much above earlier projections ($30 to $35 million). The popularity of Ghostbusters: Afterlife is significant for at least two reasons: 1) The film’s biggest draw, the return of the original Ghostbusters and other key characters (e.g., Sigourney Weaver’s Dana Barrett), is still being held back by coronavirus, and 2) Sony barely advertised one of the film’s biggest draws, the return of the original Ghostbusters and other key characters (e.g., Sigourney Weaver’s Dana Barrett).

The following is a rundown of the film’s good reaction thus far, as reported by Deadline:

The film scored an A- CinemaScore, which is slightly better than Paul Feig’s all-femme 2016 Ghostbusters, which received a B+. PostTrak has given the picture a 69 percent positive recommendation, which is greater than the 57 percent given to the ensemble of Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Melissa McCarthy, and Leslie Jones.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife received a four-star rating from the general public, with an 82 percent favorable response. The Rotten Tomatoes audience meter, which is now at 95% off 1,000 verified ratings, is also a favorite among many in distribution. The 45-54 group (which accounted for 11% of the total audience) awarded Ghostbusters: Afterlife the highest rating on PostTrak, with a 90 percent rating.

The majority of Ghostbusters fans seem to believe that Afterlife is a solid sequel that honors its great predecessors. One of the franchise’s fan-favorite characters is said to make a fantastic, if disturbing and controversial, appearance in the film.
